Getting To Know The Academy – Introducing Conor Murray

The MRSC will be catching up with a number of Academy players throughout the season. We recently introduced year one Academy player, Alan Cotter. We would now like to introduce Conor Murray, a year three player. This 6’1", 21 year old scrum half hails from Patrickswell, Co.Limerick. He attended secondary school in St.Munchins College. His is now in his final year of the Academy. Conor made his Munster senior debut as a replacement against the Sale Sharks in the 2009 pre-season game in Musgrave Park. He made his competitive debut against Connacht in the Magners League in April 2010 as a blood replacement. Here are the answers to the questions we asked Conor recently. 1. Having put down two years in the Academy, what do you hope to gain from year three? I hope to gain a senior contract and overall improve my game from last year. 2. Do you feel that you have come a long way from year one? Yes definitely. In the first year it was a bit of a shock to the system, everything was so professional but now I feel I have settled in very well. I have learned alot over the last two years. 3. When did you first start playing rugby? I started playing rugby when I went to secondary school, St. Munchins College in Limerick. 4. Where do you see yourself at the end of this year? Hopefully I will be looking forward to a new season with Munster on a senior contract. 5. Were you nervous before your first game with the senior squad? Admittedly yes, a small bit. You just want to get on the field and do your best. 6. Who is your favourite International player of all time? Dan Carter, I think he is a class player. All round he has everything. 7. What is your most memorable rugby moment? My most memorable rugby moment was probably playing against Leicester Tigers in this years pre season friendly. They had a strong team out and the fans in Musgrave Park really got behind us,it was a pretty cool feeling! 8. What module do you enjoy the most? My favourite module is probably the on field pitch sessions when we play games. 9. What advice would you give to players in year one? I would advise them to be totally committed to the programme. Also, it is important to take in all the advice you are given. 10. What do you do in your time off from the Academy? I am usually tired from training so I like to just chill out. I try play golf if the weather is decent. 11. If you were to be a character in a movie, who would you like to be? Ahhh…maybe Jackie Chan…I supposedly look like him??? Filed By Ciara Meany 08/09/10
