The Munster Rugby Supporters Club (MRSC) Choir was formed in April 2008 and was the first Provincial Rugby Choir of its kind in the country. The choir is currently made up of almost fifty members who hail from all over the province of Munster and beyond. All are avid rugby fans and fine singers with a strong work ethic but most importantly, all are totally dedicated followers of Munster Rugby; a unique and special combination which gives the choir a very distinctive and entertaining character. Indeed, ever since their first performance at the official opening of Thomond Park before Munster's match against the All Blacks, the choir has grown from strength to strength and has been truly honoured to become an intrinsic part of the pre-match entertainment and the world renowned atmosphere at the games in Thomond Park and Irish Independent Park.
In September 2015, we welcomed a new Musical Director to lead the Choir; Claire O'Donoghue is a Limerick native, an avid Choral singer and a distinguished Conductor and Accompanist, having just recently graduated from the BMus Degree at CIT Cork School of Music. Under her baton, the Choir have been fortuitous enough to sing at many wonderful events and alongside many notable artists including Cara O'Sullivan, The Celtic Tenors, Jean Wallace and Nyle Wolfe. Of special note are their Charity and fund raising efforts around the province including the recent 'In tune for Life' Concert in the INEC Killarney in aid of the Donal Walsh Live life Foundation, not to mention performances at a variety of concerts in the Cork Opera House, University Concert Hall, Limerick and the Richard Harris International Film festival to name just a few.
Of all sports, singing is without doubt intrinsically linked to Rugby. While rugby anthems form a fundamental part of the music the Choir sing, their repertoire extends way beyond that and includes everything from the Choral Classic of Nabucco's Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves Va, Pensiero to Cold Play's Viva la Vida and everything in between! For the MRSC Choir it is an honour and a privilege to stand on the hallowed turf on match day, to entertain the crowd, lead the supporters in singing and most importantly, to support such an amazing team as Munster.
